Aluminum Boat Trailer Galvanic Corrosion

Protecting aluminum boats from salt water corrosion. 13 ways to prevent galvanic corrosion 1. don’t mix metals, or at least use metals as close to each other as possible in the galvanic series. 2. protecting aluminum boats from salt water corrosion. load rite. ditch your carpet. The trailer boat, in addition to being drained out after use, will probably be hoseddown with fresh water and may to some extent dry out. although fresh water does not prevent corrosion, it is not as vigorous in its attack as seawater, which contains 3% – 4% of sodium chloride.. Galvanic corrosion of aluminum drive units — or any underwater aluminum on your boat — is accelerated by attaching stainless steel components like propellers, trim planes (if connected to engine ground), and aftermarket steering aids..

The boat is made of almg5 marin grade aluminum. the boat has been painted with international trilux anti-fouling paint (based on copper thiocyanate).. A. corrosion is a pretty normal phenomena that doesn't necessarily require electrolysis (galvanic corrosion). i'd paint the transom with either a metal-free aluminum priming paint or, if you can buy it, an organo tin paint, tbt (this is truly biohostile stuff, and is allowed only on aluminum if at all).. Zinc for aluminum or salt water: if you are a saltwater boater, you should install zinc or aluminum anodes to prevent galvanic corrosion on the engine and underwater parts of your boat..
